Here the Africa inland mission operates  a great leprosarium. Colon Doto, the place where   00:12:50.080 --> 00:12:54.960 this station is located, is renowned for the  tremendous strides which have been achieved in   00:12:54.960 --> 00:13:01.200 combating leprosy. Medical science has all  but defeated this ancient enemy of mankind.   00:13:02.240 --> 00:13:08.320 On these grounds those who have suffered the  ravages of the disease are sympathetically and   00:13:08.320 --> 00:13:13.680 lovingly cared for. Although the occurrence  of any further damage has been stopped   00:13:14.240 --> 00:13:21.600 it is not possible to repair the destroyed tissue.  However even those who have to crawl are happy   00:13:21.600 --> 00:13:27.280 in the healing which has been given them. As they  have received treatment and have had the privilege   00:13:27.280 --> 00:13:34.640 of hearing from sincere missionaries of the son  of God who loved them and gave himself for them. 00:13:40.000 --> 00:13:45.840 A sad feature of the work in this mission station  is the effect of the disease on the children.   00:13:46.720 --> 00:13:51.760 Special attention is given to these youngsters  who may be fortunate enough to be discharged   00:13:51.760 --> 00:13:57.200 from the hospital. Under the careful  supervision of an excellently trained staff,   00:13:57.760 --> 00:14:03.600 the treasurer of Africa's children is being  safeguarded. The medicine men follow   00:21:34.560 --> 00:21:38.960 with the religious articles which are used to  determine the life expectancy of the patient.   00:21:39.760 --> 00:21:46.560 The moment is a serious one, if the little girl is  to die then someone in the tribe will be pointed   00:21:46.560 --> 00:21:52.400 out as the evil source from which this curse has  come. The service begins with the chanting of a   00:21:52.400 --> 00:21:58.400 ritual designed to catch the attention of the evil  spirit so that they may be drawn out of the girl. 00:22:11.040 --> 00:22:15.120 With almost diabolical shouts  the witch doctor plunges his   00:22:15.120 --> 00:22:17.600 spear into the neck of the sacrificial ram. 00:22:24.320 --> 00:22:30.720 His assistants prepare to cut it up in the proper  manner because our minds have been freed by the   00:22:30.720 --> 00:22:37.840 power of Christ it is impossible for us to imagine  the tremendous grip which the witch doctor has on   00:22:37.840 --> 00:22:45.440 the people. Whatever he says these people will  accept and whatever his judgments they will be   00:22:45.440 --> 00:22:50.640 received as supernatural. He makes contact  with the spirit world through offerings and   00:22:50.640 --> 00:22:59.360 incantations before small grass huts. As the witch  doctor offers his incantations to these spirits,   00:22:59.360 --> 00:23:03.760 the assistants continue the preparation  of the ram until the liver is removed.   00:23:04.480 --> 00:23:09.680 This is the crucial moment of decision the  condition of the ram's liver will indicate   00:23:09.680 --> 00:23:14.720 the judgment which the witch doctor must  give. Breathlessly the villagers await the   00:23:14.720 --> 00:23:35.840 verdict and then it comes. The supernatural  signs indicate that the child will recover.   00:23:36.880 --> 00:23:41.840 The remains are examined for further clues  and understanding the supernatural message.   00:23:42.720 --> 00:23:49.280 Blood has been spilled in a sacrifice made but  the spirits yet must be appeased.
