Abstract

Luke-Acts can serve as an example of the historical trustworthiness of the New Testament. In the last two centuries one school has denied Luke s veracity as a historian, and another has affirmed it. The latter includes experts in extrabiblical literature and history of the period, while the former has paid much less attention to this kind of evidence. Luke 2:2 is a text that many have considered mistaken, but there are ways of interpreting it that resolve the problems. Since Luke's accuracy has been demonstrated in many details, it seems reasonable to suspend judgment in cases like Luke 2:2 until more evidence surfaces. Historical research has increasingly confirmed the veracity of the New Testament in many formerly doubted texts
