Goals are Goads

...Goals are Goads. A goad, as you may know, those of you are not farmers, and even farming in our time has not used it. But in former times, if an oxen was dawdling and every ox I've ever seen dawdled, what you would do is to jab him in the hind quarters with a stick. And that stick was simply a goad, an ox goad to move him along, to encourage him along. So often we do not handle goals very well because we misconceive what goals are. And so in the time available to me, I'm going to talk to you about what I perceive to be goals.
