Description
Now this picture of God the invisible even to the one who is described as his image. That is to us, this invisibility is part of His given nature. And as we look at Scripture, what we find is that he is a God who is heard and not seen. And the experience for most of the people in the patriarchs in the Old Testament lies in this thing. If they hear God, or He comes to them in a vision, in a dream, but they do not see him as he is. And so the crucial medium through which God reveals himself is the medium of the world. Unlike children who are supposed to be seen but not heard, God is exactly the opposite. He is heard but not seen. And we have the picture of God as God's word creating the world. It defines the world. It judges the world. It's going to perfect the world.
